EV Charger Levels Explained for Arizona Homeowners

Level 1, 2, or 3? Here's the plain-English breakdown of home EV charging — and which one actually makes sense.
Level 1: the included cord
Every EV comes with a Level 1 cord that plugs into a standard 120V outlet. It adds about 3–5 miles of range per hour. That's fine for a plug-in hybrid or a short commute, but for most full EVs it's painfully slow.
Level 2: the home charger everyone actually wants
Level 2 runs on 240V (like your dryer) and adds 20–35 miles of range per hour. A full overnight charge from empty is realistic. This is what we install for the vast majority of customers. It requires a dedicated 40–60 amp circuit and a hardwired station or a NEMA 14-50 outlet.
Level 3 (DC fast charging) is not for homes
Level 3 chargers require three-phase commercial power and cost tens of thousands. You will not be installing one in your garage. These are the units you find at travel plazas.
What we check before installing
Panel capacity (do you have spare amps?), wire run length, garage layout, and whether load management or a panel upgrade is needed. We pull the permit, do the install, and schedule the inspection.
